Cariboo welcomes baby in sustainable style. All Cariboo designs are
inspired by a commitment to the safety and protection of children and
the environment. Handcrafted in rural Canterbury in New Zealand's South
Island, the Cariboo line is constructed from sustainable, local
materials including radiata pine and organic New Zealand wool.
Our
bassinets and changing tables are designed to simplify and improve
everyday life. Coordinating pieces blend easily with the most
sophisticated home décor. Eco-friendly materials combined with
practical features, cozy fabrics and elegant designs make Cariboo the
smart choice for parents, their children and the planet.
After spending one too many nights rocking her children back to sleep, Carol McGeady dreamed up Cariboo®
in the wee hours of the morning in 1986. She imagined a bassinet that
could help infants sleep by being sensitive to their natural movements.
From this inspiration, she created the Gentle Motions Bassinet.
At
one point, Carol didn't think she would get to experience motherhood.
Told she would never have children, she threw herself into running a
small wool shop in New Zealand. After the joy of delivering Amanda and
Brendon, she turned that early-morning idea into an extraordinary
bassinet sought after by discerning parents. Once on the market, it
quickly became the best-selling bassinet in her native New Zealand.
Carol
also noticed that many nursery products on the market were poorly
designed, environmentally insensitive and short-lived. She decided to
produce high-quality, safe, eco-friendly nursery furniture and
accessories with classic style to suit any home. With no training in
manufacturing or engineering, Carol's designs for Cariboo follow her
mother's instinct for what is best for babies. She says, "Just being a
mother made me realize how little suitable baby furniture there is on
the market."
Cariboo bassinets have become a
Hollywood hit, starring in the homes of celebrities including Ben
Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Tori Spelling and Mariska Hargitay.
"We were sent this beautiful bassinet that folds up and slips away when
necessary. And compared to the GOD AWFUL stuff that is out there for
babies, this is breath of fresh air."
